Untitled (Archive Aperto Raum) is a project started in 2019 during an art residency at the Aperto Raum Gallery organized in collaboration with Gallery C24 in New York. At that time, it was already clear that no exhibitions would be held in the Aperto Raum gallery space and that two of the three curators who led the project would be separated under the new name A:D: Curatorial.
This series of works pay homage to memories of the organization’s old space as it explores the physicality of its new environment. The pigment made from dust collected from the original Aperto Raum gallery space was used to produce a color that was used for printing out pale gray images — photographs of the former workspace. In addition, pieces of office furniture are placed to form a floor plan that echoes the previous one, with larger digital prints of the same series of photographs, this time shots of the exhibition space showing various three-dimensional elements in the space such as pipes, electrical, and heating installations. Illumination of these objects is achieved by using backlighting to achieve a light-box effect. The works outline a constellation of touchstones that highlight the way we keep our memories meaningful, even if they are finite or pale.
The works were produced for the solo exhibition
