Untitled (Archive ST3: Content) is a continuation of a project started in 2015. This intervention is two-part and conceptually connects the two parts of the city of Split with the locations of its performance. The first intervention was realized on the façade of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Science in Split located in the urban area of Split 3, and the second in the Kula Gallery, a constitutive part of the perimeter of Diocletian’s Palace. This kind of work unites two seemingly separate urban units, the late antique and the one of high modernism, although their conceptual connections and interferences were set as early as late antiquity.

The work problematizes urban planning and architectural heritage from the late 1960s and during the 1970s by writing textual fragments on the Faculty of Philosophy in Split’s façade, designed by architect D. Colnago at the crossroads of two epochs with different socio-political paradigms, as business and commercial building for the firm Brodomerkur. From one of the source documents of the Split 3 project – Basic Urban Design – Textual part: preliminary technical description and report from November 1969, a few sentences were selected and projected to the recognizable façade, turning it into an active drawing questioning the appearance and temperament of the city today. The inert aesthetics of the architectural exterior thus transforms into a platform of extremely dynamic public discourse.

In the Kula Gallery, with the artistic re-elaboration of Zvonimir Buljević’s photographs documenting the construction of Split 3, the importance of protecting carefully designed and defined urban units was pointed out, alluding to the need for the more appropriate valorization of this segment of Split urban planning at all levels. By placing scaffolding in the exhibition space, the working character of the preserved photographs is underlined and the construction of a carefully designed urban ensemble and its architecture is shown. By positioning the installation within the exhibition space, the Roman centuriation of the pre-Diocletian era is evoked, ie the articulation of the space in which today’s public spaces and multiple frames of private life are harmonized.

The works were produced for the two-part solo exhibition Untitled (Archive ST3: Content) at the University of Split, Faculty of Humanities and Social Science, and at the Cultural Institution Kula Gallery, Split, Croatia in 2021.
