Continuing his artistic research related to archives and the mnemonic potential contained in archival material, Viktor Popović selects a photograph of the facade of the Croatian Home from 1910 as the starting point for his intervention. Viktor digitizes the analog photograph and divides it into four fragments, which he uses for a graphic print realized in the silkscreen technique. However, the color he uses in this process is obtained from dust, a substance of extremely heterogeneous and indeterminate composition, which he collected in the same building, thus retaining a physical reference and connection. Popović has already applied this interesting production method in his works over the past two years, dealing with archival materials from various institutions.

The extremely pale gamut of the transferred photographic template almost suggests a ghostly image of the original photograph, giving it an "apparition" appearance as it almost blends into the uniform monochrome of the paper background. This also achieves a fading effect that contributes to the experience of different temporalities and their simultaneous triggering. However, although in experiencing this pictorial reflection we might easily neglect the feeling of the physical component, it is actually extremely important both in the creation and interpretation of this impressive graphic intervention by Viktor, with its airy depiction of the Art Nouveau building seemingly "rising" from the white paper background.

The title of the Chiaroscuro cycle finds its origin in the history of fine arts, dating back to the Renaissance when new ways of "modeling" a painting scene were being explored. Later, jazz music and visual arts followed and intertwined, jointly resisting conventions and rigid frameworks, tending towards improvisation and polyrhythm. In the wake of a similar displaced dialogical practice, the elastic Viewpoints program, conceived by curator Dalibor Prančević, emerged. The schedule of jazz music concerts alternates with site-specific interventions by four artists (Vedran Perkov, Viktor Popović, Neli Ružić, Loren Živković Kuljiš), who use the building of the Croatian Home, a significant meeting point of music and visual arts, as their starting point.

The Viewpoints exhibition program is dedicated to Davor Matičević (Split, 1945 – Zagreb, 1994) on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of his early death. He was a key figure in curatorial work during the 1970s and 1980s, thoroughly studying contemporary art issues, particularly emphasizing the importance of contemporary artists' interventions in public space. His work and projects left a deep mark and strong influence on the contemporary art and curatorial scene in Croatia.
